POS systems started to be introduced by distributors and retailers in the 1980s, but the first systems were built around expensive dedicated computers. Seeing an opportunity, #Epson developed the TM-930, a terminal module printer for PCs with open-architecture POS systems.
The #printer included many innovative features including Centronics-compliant interfaces and what would evolve to become ESC/POS®, the future de facto standard control command system for #POS printers.
Top retailers in America adopted PC-POS and these systems rapidly spread around the globe creating a high demand for PC-POS printers.
